Less soapboxing, more singing demand ...

AC/DC singer Brian Johnson has criticised U2 frontman Bono for continually mentioning his charity work and campaigning during live performances.

The veteran rocker, who is currently on a world tour with the Australian band, declared his opposition to music stars who use concerts to push their viewpoints.

"When I was a working man I didn't want to go to a concert for some bastard to talk down to me that I should be thinking of some kid in Africa," he told Melbourne newspaper The Herald Sun.

"I'm sorry mate, do it yourself, spend some of your own money and get it done. It just makes me angry. I become all tyrannical."

Johnson also aimed a salvo at Bob Geldof's Live 8 concerts, particularly for the fact that they were televised around the world.

The 62-year-old singer instead gives his time and money to charity without feeling the need to inform everyone that he is doing so.

"Do a charity gig, fair enough, but not on worldwide television," said Johnson.

"I do it myself, I don't tell everybody I'm doing it. I don't tell everybody they should give money - they can't afford it."
