A wealthy saviour steps up?
Andrew Lloyd Webber has expressed an interest in buying Abbey Road sudio in London, which was put on the market this week by record label EMI.
The famed studio, which was immortalised on The Beatles' 1969 album Abbey Road, is being sold by EMI to raise cash to ease its debt burden.
After Sir Paul McCartney called for the north London facility to be saved, Lloyd Webber has now indicated his intention to lodge a bid, reports BBC News.
"He thinks it is vital that the studios are saved for the future of the music industry in the UK," said a spokesperson for Lloyd Webber, who recorded Jesus Christ Superstar and Love Never Dies at the studio.
"Abbey Road has such great facilities, with three major recording studios. Andrew has probably brought more musicians to record there than anyone else, because it has the capacity to record large orchestral productions."
The National Trust has also expressed its willingness to save Abbey Road, while 8,000 people have joined a Facebook campaign to ensure the facility remains as a working studio.
