20th Century Fox has confirmed that it is developing a feature film based on counter-terrorism series 24, which will be set in Europe.

The story, penned by State of Play scribe Billy Ray, will see Kiefer Sutherland's Jack Bauer character taking on threats outside of the U.S.

The TV production team behind 24 will also be involved in the film, which will go into production when the current season ends.

Sutherland will join series creators Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran, along with show-runner Howard Gordon in producing the feature.

In 2008, Bauer left his usual location of Los Angeles to tackle threats in Africa for TV film 24: Redemption.
