U.S. rapper Guru, one half of the Gang Starr outfit, is in a coma after suffering a cardiac arrest yesterday (28 February).
The 43-year-old, real name Keith Alam, is due to undergo surgery today at a hospital in New York.
Speaking in a phone call to radio station Hip Hop Nation, Guru's Gang Starr partner DJ Premier said: "Guru is in a coma and will go under surgery tomorrow afternoon."
After rising to fame in the 1980s as a solo MC, Guru scored a string of hits with Gang Starr, including Words I Manifest, Just to Get Rep and Full Clip.
The rapper is also known for his work on Jazzmatazz, a fusion of hip hop and jazz that has released four albums to date.
However, Guru recently hinted at a reunion with DJ Premier to record a new Gang Starr album.
