New Line Cinema has reportedly secured the rights to create a film based on Sony's PlayStation 3 game Heavy Rain.
According to documents uncovered by Superannuation, the film studio optioned the licence in May 2006 just after a trailer for the game was shown at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles.
The option agreement was then re-filed in 2007, meaning that New Line has held onto the rights for some time now.
Developed by French studio Quantic Dream, Heavy Rain has been praised as the first real integration of cinematic storytelling and interactive gameplay.
The game's story follows four different characters as they each try to track down an obsessive murderer known as the Origami Killer.
Heavy Rain the game is available now.
However, no further is known at this stage about any directors, writers or stars attached to the companion movie, or when it might go into production.
