A young couple living in a Connecticut suburb during the mid-1950s struggle to come to terms with their personal problems, while trying to raise their two children. Based on a novel by Richard Yates, Sam Mendes directs Winslet and DiCaprio in a BBC Films production dripping in style and class.
Much of the chatter may be about whether the two leads can recapture some of the onscreen chemistry that went below the waves with the Titanic, but this is really Mendes' film and comes with the precise and skilled plotting and performances which are his trademark.
Early word of mouth is good for the US/UK production which just goes to show there remains some life in that special relationship after all...and we're not just talking about Leonardo and Kate, either.
