Presenter of MTV channel Viva’s The Official Chart Show, The Urban Chart on MTV Base and 1Xtra’s Weekend Breakfast Show, Sarah Jane loves her music, meeting the odd celebrity or two, and a good old natter.

Having interviewed Robert DeNiro, Forest Whitaker, Kings of Leon and 50 Cent in the course of her duties on E4, Sarah Jane has also fronted such live events as the Rise Festival, Bacardi B-Live and the main stage at the London Games Festival.

The Official Chart Show gives VIVA viewers the first chance to see the biggest selling tracks in a countdown of five exclusive charts as compiled by The Official Charts Company, and is hosted by Sarah Jane along with cheeky chappie Phil Clifton.

We tracked down Sarah Jane to pick her brains on celebrity interviews, her obsession with the music charts, and whether Robbie will get back with Take That.

Have you always been a big fan of music charts?

Absolutely. My earliest memories involve me tuning in to the radio via my personal stereo on a Sunday and sometimes I would tape it on a cassette. The Top 10 was always exciting, I could never tear myself away until I had found out the week’s Number One. I'll never forget Bryan Adams spending four months on the top spot with Everything I Do.

Oh dear. So who is the most interesting person you have interviewed?

Musician-wise, I think it has to be Usher. His music provided the soundtrack to many of my teenage years, and we touched on his musical catalogue quite a bit. Film-wise, the Sex and the City cast, SJP et al. Kim Cattrall is awesome, and Robert De Niro too.

And your dream interviewee?

It would have been the legendary Michael Jackson, but now probably Jay-Z or Prince.

Who is your favourite artist right now?

In terms of artist creativity, the great pop tunes that she writes herself, off-the-wall styling, and incredible world beating stage shows, it has to be Lady Gaga. Her efforts have been reflected by amazing record sales this year too.

Who do you think will be Christmas Number One?

It's likely to be one of The X-Factor alumni, but if not, I’m really not sure as it's all about timing. I’d like to see Robbie Williams do well this Christmas.

Do you think Robbie will get back with Take That?

He's mentioned in recent interviews that there is a good chance that we will see him back on stage with the boys. I for one would love to see that as Take That were the boy band du jour when I was young girl. But as for rejoining permanently - I don’t think so.

Who do you think will be the next member of Girls Aloud to go solo?

Personally I'd like to hear music from Nadine as she has the best voice out of the girls by far.

You can watch the frankly lovely Sarah Jane on The Official Chart Show on Viva at 13:30 every Friday.

Sarah Jane comments:

  1. Sarah Jane = Well fit. Viva's a ball of loose string tho (how many more times can MTV repackage its stuff?).

  2. love Sarah Jane.

on the whole VIVA has turned out to be better than i thought it would be.
