Linkous killed by own gun in Tennessee ...
Sparklehorse's Mark Linkous committed suicide on Saturday (6 March) at the age of 47, his family has confirmed.
According to The New York Times, Linkous' manager Shelby Meade said that the singer-songwriter died from a gunshot wound to the heart close to his friend's house in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Linkous was pronounced dead at the scene and his family confirmed that he owned the gun used to end his life.
"It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today," Linkous' family told Rolling Stones.
"We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There's a heaven and there’s a star for you."
Linkous released the first Sparklehorse album in 1995, before going on to release a further three records, including 2001's It's A Wonderful Life.
In 1996, the star suffered a drug overdose in London while on tour supporting Radiohead, which led to him being in a wheelchair for six months.
