Who? Formed two-years ago in Livingston, post-emotive rockers AMAC are Ged, Barry, Heather, Jeff, Chris and Aidan. The sextet (ranging in ages from 18-24) has different tastes, from heavy metal, noisy punk, spacey hip-hop to piano and acoustic er, stuff.
Why? Writing and playing a mixture of progressive and original melodies, the band achieves a balance of styles which make up the ACAC sound.
When & Where? New EP From Sketch to Stability is out August, 2009. No shows are booked at the moment, due to the band recording their next single, however you can keep up with their antics via their MySpace.
Taking time out from the recording process, Ged Cartwright and Barry Topping bat our questions on behalf of the band.
Sell Livingston to us.
Livingston claims to have the biggest shopping centre in Europe but it has an interesting music scene in that there are pretty much no venues, yet a huge amount of bands devoted to gigging. Plus, it’s situated right between Glasgow and Edinburgh which is great from a gigging standpoint.
Who’s the boss in the band
Probably Barry – a band Nazi to the max.
What are your influences?
Vocally we like to take bits and pieces from everywhere and really enjoy the tone and pacing of post-hardcore vocalists, especially those working the R n’ B angle into their songs. You can’t help but admire the power and range of Metal singers though.
What is post emotive rock?
It’s where we feel emotional rock music should progress to next, with more harmonies, keyboards and generally more intensity. It’s a fusion of genres and styles, but under the banner of ‘emotive rock’. It’s definitely the next step up from stock old emo.
You biggest success so far?
Either the It Bites or Idlewild support slots. Idlewild was the bigger gig and it felt great being chosen from a small cast of other bands. On the other hand, It Bites are a band we enjoy very much, so that was a great honour. Plus, there’s the From Sketch to Stability album. We knew the pressures involved in independently recording, producing and marketing our own CD but we gave it our all and we’re deeply proud of the end result.
How’s the new work progressing?
We've decided on a three-track this time, and all the songs are finished in terms or writing and arrangement. We’d like to get a label behind us before unleashing our first full length album on the world.
What was the best music TV programme?
Rockschool. Where else could the youth of the nation get the inside scoop on how Erasure wrote music?
