"it's just
Rock n Roll"
What are your greatest inspirations as a singer?
Life, love and romance.
Ever thought of giving it up for the day job?
I tried to a few years ago. I was a tad burnt out and had lost enjoyment in what I was doing. I’m glad I got back into music again; I’m learning to embrace the whole process and the importance of having balance in my life.
For the uninitiated, what does performing live feel like?
It’s those moments where you connect to the audience that really count. It feels as though everything’s standing still and as if the audience are frozen. They’re transfixed on what you’re doing and you can do what ever you want. It can feel quite dream like. Love it!
Song-writing: Curse or joy?
It’s definitely a joy, I use to take it all quite seriously when I was younger but now I like to have fun with it. It’s great having an outlet that allows you to release the stresses and strains of life in such an enjoyable and productive way.
If you could have written any song, what would it have been?
These Days, originally sung by Nico and written by Jackson Browne, who wrote the song when he was 16. If I wrote a song like that when I was 16 I’d be quite happy to retire by now!
Are the charts becoming meaningless?
I don’t feel that the charts are meaningless; there are a lot more varied genres these days, which is great. I remember a time when it was a mission to find any r&b and hip hop in the charts and even a load of female UK artists where as now it’s all there. The charts represent what’s selling mainstream but nowadays there are so many options and ways to discover and support new artists.
What’s the state of the nation right now?
Let’s just say there’s plenty of room for improvement. There are many people in influential and strong positions who abuse their power, we can’t necessarily change them but collectively we can all have a role to play to improve things.
What can we expect from you over the next 12 months?
Lots more gigs and Miri on your radio!
