Who? The Destroyers originate from Birmingham and play a hybrid mash of Balkan, Klezmer, and Gypsy styles, with trad' dance tunes, and are all about having a good time. Their gigs have to be experienced to be believed.
Why? The band originally came together to play music from the Balkans, and are now on a journey to see where it takes them.
When? New album, Out Of Babel, is released 7 September and, following Glastonbury (where the band played five times), The Destroyers are touring for most of this summer.
Where? MySpace, Twitter & the official Destroyers site.
There are 15 (15!) members of The Destroyers, and they are (in no particular order), Aaron Diaz (trumpet), Dan O'Connell (drums), Dan Wilkins (electric guitar), Dave Adams (accordion/piano), Frank Moon (bass), Gaz Jones (clarinet), Jamie Fekete (acoustic guitar), Leighton Hargreaves (violin), Leo Altarelli (trumpet/lead vocals, Louis Robinson (violin), Mark Davis (tuba), Max Gittings (flutes), Mick Howson (hurdy gurdy), Paul Murphy (lead vocals) and Rich Shrewsbury (trombone). Blimey! Flute-player Max Gittings does the decent thing and bats the questions.
Why do you do what you do?
Because we love it.
What’s the best thing about what you do?
Having a great time playing the music we love, to an all-singing,
all-dancing audience.
And the worst?
Carrying our gear across a muddy festival site, and trying to make unified decisions with all 15 members of the band.
The best wedding song of all time is?
You’re the Best by Joe Esposito.
Had iTunes killed the music charts?
We hope not.
It’s not about the money, it’s about…?
The tunes.....all of 'em.
If you could work with anyone, it would be?
Frank Zappa.
What’s the state of the nation right now?
Cynically hopeful.
Who is responsible?
Everyone.
Where will you be in ten years time?
Eating goulash with Spinal tap at Glastonbury, whilst listening to Taraf de Haidouks headline the pyramid stage.
