Who? Thee Uncomfortables are all about hammonds, battered guitars and songs about love and hell, mixed together with elements of Film Noir and Surf Rock, all clattering together in an electrifying mixture. Crikey.
Why? Alongside the distinct pleasures of gigging, thee Uncomfortables also host a night in Preston called Club Soixante-Neuf for all like-minded bands to play their music. You should pop along and give it a go.
When & Where? New single Where Did I Sleep Last Night? is on release right now (september 2009). Plus, also check out their MySpace or Facebook.
Taking time out from love, hell and Preston, Richard Lomax and Patrick Daly gamely bat the questions.
Your MySpace page lists you as Psychedelic/surf/pop?
MySpace only allows you to enter three genres, so we've chosen a pared down version of our full set of genres which is: Doom-Jazz-Evil-Doo-Wop-Life-Saving-Camp-Death-Metal-Psychedelic-Surf-Pop. Sometimes we manage to incorporate that all into one song and sometimes not. New single Where Did I Sleep Last Night? fulfils the Psychedelic-Surf-Pop mandate.
Tour or record?
We like touring but feel at home most in the studio translating the sounds in my head into a physicality.
Where do call your musical home?
The stage and the van. Living out of the back of a van for two weeks every six months puts into perspective the things you need to live.
Tell us about Club Soixante-Neuf.
This was originally a house where Matt and Richard lived. It had a long history of artists and dossers living there. There's a bar underneath the stairs and it was a perfect place for gigs. We reused the name for the nights we put on at the Mad Ferret in Preston, trying to recapture the vibe of my ideal club, which probably isn't a club but somewhere between a prohibition era speakeasy, a sock-hop and an ice cream parlour.
Tom Robinson on bbc6 music is...?
A very lucky man to have been sent one of our CDs and a man playing a fair share of good music. We know he's giving Orphans & Vandals a lot of support which is only to be applauded.
What's the best thing about touring?
Travelling and playing music. We like both. We have met some people who have gone on to be strong friends and had experiences that I feel have strengthened us all individually.
Who was the best act you have supported?
Misty's Big Adventure, Wave Machines, the Brute Chorus and Racehorses all deserve special mention. We couldn't choose between them. We Are Scientists were also great.
