JJ Abrams takes up the directorial helm of one of cinema’s most successful (and treasured) franchises in the first big release of 09. Expect twists, state of the art effects, very loud explosions and eye-raising casting (Winona Ryder puts in an appearance, Simon Pegg tries on a Scottish accent) as well as loving attention to future-retro details as Star Trek chronicles the early days of Kirk, Spoc et-al as the Enterprise heads off into deep space at the start of the (apparently never-ending adventure).
There might even be the odd heart-warming cameo or two (though not from William Shatner, apparently). Go see.
Released on Blu-ray and DVD 16 Nov, 09 (UK).
