Tom Cruise has reportedly confirmed that he will star in a fourth film in the Mission: Impossible franchise.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the 47-year-old actor has agreed a deal with Paramount to reprise the role of Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible 4.

Lost co-creator J.J. Abrams will produce the film, after he directed Mission: Impossible III.

Alias writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec will pen the script, but a director has not yet been attached.

Cruise will next be seen opposite Cameron Diaz in action comedy Knight and Day, which hits U.S. cinema screens on 2 July.
