Awards roll in for Pixar smash ...

Disney Pixar's Up won the top prize at the 37th annual Annie Awards yesterday at UCLA's Royce Hall in Los Angeles, California.

The film, which is about a grieving elderly widower who flies to South America in a house lifted by balloons, was named best feature during the ceremony.

Pete Doctor, who helmed the animated flick, was given the best director prize for his second feature after 2001's Monster Inc.

Also at the ceremony, which was hosted by William Shatner, Laika's Coraline and Disney's hand-drawn film The Princess and the Frog secured three wins each.

Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach received the screenwriting award for stop-motion feature Fantastic Mr. Fox, which Anderson also directed.

Disney achieved further success on the television side, with ABC series Prep & Landing winning three awards, including production and character design.

Meanwhile, Up is the odds-on favourite to win best animated feature at the Oscars, while the film is also in contention for the best picture prize, after becoming only the second animated feature to be nominated.
